ONE more win, on Sunday, would take Shipley Hall as far as they got in the Npower Village Cup in 2006 – to the national semi-final, one step away from a date at Lord's in September.

And should any further incentive be needed, a victory at Woodhouses in Lancashire would give Shipley a money-spinning home draw in the semi-finals.

Woodhouses are famous as the club where former England captain Mike Atherton started out and his brother, Chris, is the current captain.

But Shipley captain James Cokayne thinks the standard of cricket is likely to be similar to what his side encounter in Derbyshire County League Division One.

“They play in the same league as Glossop and we think it's a similar standard,” said Cokayne.

“They're fifth in their league, so we are confident about competing with them.

“When we got to this stage last time, we found we were playing teams of about the same standard as ourselves.

“But we have a lot of determination to go one step further this time – a lot of our players are aware that you don't get too many chances like this.”

Shipley, who expect to be at full strength, with batsman Stef Gamble recovering from a shoulder injury, are likely to be followed north by around 100 supporters.

Sandiacre Town will be away to Durham side Chester-le-Street in the last eight of the Cockspur Cup knockout competition on Sunday, August 3 – not at home as reported in the Evening Telegraph on Monday.
