It features shortened games and goals worth multiple points and was primarily developed for a new international competition, the Fast5 Netball World Series.
Hoping to break into Lightning's first team are six local players who are part of the National Talent Squad.
The NTL squad, who include Ripley shooters Sophie Matthew and Tyler Bexton, Falcons duo Issy Beighton and Brittany Coleman, Pennine's Jess Smith and Burton centre Tamikah Campbell, made a disappointing start to the NTL season with two defeats and a draw on the opening day in Sheffield.
Beighton captained the side as they were beaten 48-41 by Surrey Storm but they recorded a 41-41 draw with Mavericks in their second game.
However, they were beaten by just four goals in their final game against Bath.
