Sales 'on the rise' despite car recall
A DERBY car supermarket has reported that its sales of Toyotas have risen despite the recall of some models.
Motorpoint, in Chartwell Drive, said sales were up 53% last month.
Toyota is recalling seven models, including the Auris and Avensis, which are both built at Burnaston.
Thousands of cars are being returned to dealers to have a part fitted which solves a problem with the accelerator.
Motorpoint said the most popular model sold was the Toyota Yaris.
Managing director David Shelton said: "It is clear from our sales figures that consumers' faith in Toyota remains strong, despite everything that has happened.
"While people were naturally concerned because of the recalls, their underlying confidence in the brand remains strong, as witnessed by the number of units we sold in Derby last month."
