Save The Last Dance For Me at Derby Assembly Rooms
Bill Kenwright, the world famous music impresario, has done it again. Hot on the coat tails of “Dream Boats and Petticoats” comes a refreshing and exuberant musical “Save the Last Dance for me”. Playing until Saturday (February 9) this song and dance extravaganza really does hit all the right notes!
Based on a story of passion and prejudice all wrapped up in a package of panache comes this fresh and lively 50s homage.
Curtis, played by Kieran McGinn, really makes this part his own. His voice is vibrant and warm. His acting is sublime. Marie (Elizabeth Carter) is joyful, youthful and innocent sweet as apple pie. Her vocal range belies her youthful countenance. Milton (Lee Honey-Jones is the perfect counterfoil to Curtis. Jennifer (Verity Jones) toyed with our emotions alternating between caring big sister and world weary good time girl. Her one liners were smart and well delivered.
I loved the Rock and Roll sound of the live band and was extremely impressed with the acapella numbers. The main stage setting just made you feel like you were in a 1950’s American dance hall, complete with bright lights, bar and crew.
