SAWLEY & Long Eaton Park CC have received a £1,000 grant from Derbyshire County Council to help continue the club's work with junior cricketers.

In recent years, the Derbyshire County League club have expanded their senior sides to accommodate the ever-growing number of young players coming through the ranks.

This, alongside the development of a girls team, has enabled the club the gain English Cricket Board (ECB) community club status, as well as being accredited with the Sport England Clubmark.

Derbyshire County Councillor Bill Camm, pictured presenting a cheque to Sawley & Long Eaton Park CC chairman Michael Hopkins, said: “This club is a credit to the local community and it is just the sort of organisation the county council would like me to support through their award scheme.”

The club will be showcasing cricket to the local community when they host 12 matches on West Park in Wilsthorpe Road, Long Eaton, during the Ryley & Evans Opticians Festival of cricket, starting tomorrow and lasting all week.
