A DERBY primary school is celebrating after its curriculum won an award at a national education conference.

Grampian Primary School was one of two winners at the 2009 21st Century Learning Alliance Awards for leading curriculum and learning innovation.

Five schools were shortlisted for the award, which was judged on pioneering use of time, space, people and resources.

The 21st Century Learning Alliance was founded in 2006 by key national organisations involved in education and industry and school leaders to help stimulate improvement and change.

The judges were impressed by how the Sinfin school places significant emphasis on the development of research, critical thinking and communication skills.

Head teacher Chris Perkins said: "It's a tremendous honour to receive such a prestigious national award.

"I am very fortunate to have such a highly skilled, united and creative team.

"We have built a curriculum, and teach in a way, that ensures the children are highly motivated, engaged and love learning because of how enjoyable and relevant it is for them.

"We will continue to innovate and improve to create the best possible life chances for every child that joins us."
