School's hope to cut places by 10 'could hit parental choice'
THE city council is considering referring a Derby school to the Office for the Schools Adjudicator over its proposed admission arrangements.
West Park School wants to reduce its annual pupil admission number from 250 to 240 from 2011 because of falling numbers of younger people in the Spondon area.
It was one of three schools which told the council's school admissions forum it intended to reduce its intake figure.
The others were Boulton Primary and Wren Park Primary, both of which have had their decision accepted.
But council officials believe that allowing West Park School to reduce its number will hurt parental choice.
The forum will decide at its meeting on Wednesday whether or not to object to the school's proposal.
The Office for the Schools Adjudicator considers the proposal from both sides and makes a final legally-binding judgement.
