A DERBY secondary wants to change its status from a community to foundation school.

The proposal by da Vinci Community College is the first stage in it becoming a National Trust school.

Establishing a trust with Derby College, Serco Learning and the city council and its integrated children's services team, has been designed to raise standards with specific focus on English and maths.

Becoming a foundation school will enable the school to become responsible for its own land and staff and be able to set up a new governing body. The new trust will also further develop the curriculum for 14-to-16-year-olds.

Noel-Baker Community School, St Martin's Special School, Moor Community Sports College, Lees Brook Community Sports College and Woodlands School also want to become National Trust schools.

The consultation on the da Vinci proposal runs until February 12.
