Afternoon lectures for students at Derby College were also cancelled on all of its campuses following the severe weather conditions.

Students were allowed to leave from 12.30pm and staff from 2.30pm. All evening classes for Thursday have also been cancelled.

A college spokeswoman said: “We are concerned about people travelling home again and also getting along to classes this evening.

“We plan to be open as usual on Friday providing the weather allows it.”
