Schools hit by strikes
TEACHERS at five schools, proposed as an academy in Tamworth and set to be run by Derby's Landau Forte College, are on strike today.
They are fighting plans to turn Woodhouse Business and Enterprise College into an academy and create a sixth form centre at the town's Queen Elizabeth's School, for up to 840 pupils, to serve all of Tamworth.
Members of the National Union of Teachers plan to lobby the London headquarters of Rocco Forte, the proposed sponsor for the academy and one of the sponsors of Landau Forte College, in Fox Street.
The teachers are concerned about job losses and academic standards if proposals for the academy and post-16 centre go ahead.
