Sheesha pipe bar bid is deferred
A DECISION on whether to grant permission for Derby's first sheesha bar has been deferred by the city council.
Businessman Bobby Virk applied to create the venue on the roof of building at the junction of Normanton Road and Belgrave Street.
Bars exist in Leicester and Nottingham but not in Derby. Mr Virk's bar would not serve alcohol and would close before 11.30pm.
Sheesha uses an pipe, with a long flexible tube, that connects to a container where smoke, which is usually fruit flavoured, is cooled by passing through water.
Planners recommended it be rejected because of the potential for noise and disturbance but members of the council's planning control committee deferred a decision so they can inspect the site.
