Silverhill Primary School youngsters set the tone for cracking choirs competition

SILVERHILL Primary School choir were crowned the winners of Westfield Derby's annual singing competition.

Thirteen choirs from across Derbyshire entered the contest and battled it out for a £500 prize for their school.

The youngsters from Meadow Farm Community Primary School, in Chaddesden, were runners-up.

The school choirs, with pupils from all classes, were judged on different categories including accuracy, posture and tone.

The winner was announced at the final performance at the centre on Wednesday morning.

Janine Bone, senior centre manager at Westfield Derby, said: "As ever, we were hugely excited about the choir competition and we were delighted with how many schools from the region took part this year.

"The pupils never fail to impress with their superb performances.

"The standard just keeps getting better and this year was absolutely no exception."
