Sites for 38,000 homes but most won't be built on
AMBER Valley Borough Council says it has identified potential sites for 38,000 homes but that only a "small percentage" will be developed.
By 2026, the Government says the authority, along with Derby City Council and South Derbyshire District Council, must build 36,600 homes.
In Amber Valley, 10,200 homes are needed, of which 1,416 were built between March 31, 2006, and April 1, 2009.
The sites were revealed as part of the three authorities' public consultations into their development strategies for the next 15 to 20 years.
A borough council spokesman said: "Many (of the sites) will be deemed not to be suitable or appropriate for development, a judgement the council has not yet made."
In Derby, 2,632 of 14,400 required homes have been built and in South Derbyshire the figure is 1,618, of 12,000.
