Smith pays tribute to opponents after Archer's freak injury
HEAD coach Steve Smith has expressed his gratitude to last weekend's opponents Berkswell & Balsall for their support after Burton flanker Ken Archer broke his ankle.
The Midlands One West fixture was abandoned when the injury occurred seven minutes from time, with the Crofters awarded the victory under league rules as they led 20-17 at the time.
"I want to say a massive thank you to the captain, the players, physio and officials from Berkswell & Balsall and their off-field support that was shown after Ken Archer's freak injury," said Smith.
"It was a credit to our opposition that a tough and sometimes feisty affair was forgotten immediately a player was badly injured and everyone worked together.

"A massive thanks also to our physio, Charlie Malcolm, who was outstanding until the ambulance arrived.
"Ken has now had an operation and is on the mend. We hope to see him back in a Burton shirt at some stage next season."
Burton take on Whitchurch at Peel Croft tomorrow.
A shuffled pack will see either Jono Edwards or Ed Henry start in the second row, with a back row of Joe Briggs, Kelvin Browne and Jason Knight.
In the backs, Danny Campbell or the returning Darryl Banton will line up at scrum half. Danny Smith replaces Tom Cooper on the wing.
