THESE fascinating photographs show intricate details of everyday wildlife.

All of the snapshots were taken by amateur photographer Paul Shaw, who took up the hobby 10 years ago after teaching himself the basic skills.

Since then, his snapshots have been published in magazines, including Derbyshire Life and Outdoor Photography.

Paul, 46, said: "I've always been interested in wildlife photography. It's the combination of wildlife and recording it that I love."

Paul, of Bunting Close, Kirk Hallam, became interested in wildlife and conservation when he worked as a ranger at Peak District National Park. He now works for Ilkeston-based architect company Custom Group Ltd.

He said: "The job is for the mortgage, the photography is for the soul."

One of his favourite photos is of a barn owl peeping out of a window.

The photo, which won a competition in BBC Wildlife magazine, was taken while Paul was at work in the Peak District.

He said: "As soon as I took the photo, the owl flew away. I only had one chance to get it right and I did. Sometimes the best photos are the ones that aren't planned.

"I don't really like any of my shots. I'm very critical of my own work. Although one time, I took a picture and thought, 'it can't get any better,' so I was happy with that one."

Most of his photographs are taken in the county. However, he has been to Tanzania where he took pictures in the national game parks.

Paul now leads photography sessions for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, teaching other people how to capture nature on camera.

He added: "Working for the Wildlife Trust is good because it's a bit closer to home.

"I spent so much of my time in the Peak District before, so it was nice to explore Ilkeston."

“Stunning images. I think the owl is my favourite too.”
