CLIMATE has always changed.

Up to the mid-70s it was believed that the earth was about to suffer disastrous cooling as a result of human activity.

Some of the keenest promoters of this hypothesis are today the greatest, most influential advocates of the unproven hypothesis of man-made global warming.

The CIA compiled a report then which contains such remarks as: "Scientists are confident that, unless man is able to effectively modify the climate then Canada, the European part of the Soviet Union and major areas of northern China will again be covered with 100 to 200 feet of ice and snow.

"Early in the 1970s a series of adverse climatic anomalies occurred.

"The world's snow and ice cover increased by at least 10% to 15% …. nothing like this has happened in the last hundred years".

The CIA also reported that climate science was developing a "successful climatic prediction model" and that a "scientific consensus" had been achieved on "global climate change".

It all sounds familiar, doesn't it?

It was in 1975 that a group of UN officials and climate alarmists, realising that they had missed the bus, got together to change the hymn sheet to man-made carbon dioxide causing global warming.

They agreed to skew the presentation of scientific evidence by demanding figures "as free as possible from internal disagreements" to promote their theory.

For about 20 years it worked quite well.

With energetic "adjustments" to figures there appeared to be a correlation between rising CO2 levels and temperature.

Correlation, of course, does not prove causation.

For the last 15 years or so even Professor Phil Jones of the Climate Research Unit admits that temperatures have not risen with CO2 levels.

To paraphrase the pet food commercials of a few years ago "Nine out of ten officials and scientists (whose careers depend on global warming) said that they believed the theory".
