Spate of bike thefts sparks police alert
CYCLE owners are being urged to step up security after a series of thefts in the city.
PC Damien Shannon, from the Mackworth and Morley team, says seven bikes have been stolen from sheds in his patch since the start of the year.
He said: "Many people have stored their bike in a shed but we encourage them to use the best locks they can afford and ensure access to their garden is limited.
"Make sure you lock side gates and fix any fencing. It makes sense to make it as difficult as possible for a thief to enter any sheds or outbuildings."

Elsewhere, PC Andy Evans, from the Abbey team, wants help to trace a bike stolen from St Alban's Road.
The "high-value" cycle, a woman's black Scott Scale 30 mountain bike, was stolen on December 20.
Two bikes were also stolen from a property in Corden Avenue, Mickleover, over the Christmas period.

“Stolen bicycles? Stone from sheds? I wonder how many of those crimes were recorded as burglaries, which they are. But unless the offender is found, that makes a mess of the crime figures. Perhaps the DET reporter might enquire of the police on this matter. I'd love to be proved wrong.”
