Derbyshire Community Health Services’ children’s team was praised for “the huge variety of opportunities available for students” as winner of the most Exceptional Placement Experience.
The team members, who beat stiff competition, were also praised for making students feel valued members of the team during their placements and for the time and support given to them.
Second year speech and language therapy student Lara Meredith also picked up the Distinguished Student Award.
Lara was nominated for her great commitment and enthusiasm and for her exceptional work, creating fun and interesting sessions for children during her placement.
The event was organised by Samantha Johnson, lecturer in speech and language therapy at De Montfort University.
Samantha said: “Communication is something that most people take for granted, but suffering with a speech problem can often leave people feeling very isolated and lacking in confidence.
“The award ceremony was a great way to celebrate the amazing work done by speech therapists in the East Midlands and to recognise how important this work is and the difference it makes to people’s lives.”
Derbyshire Community Health Services’ speech and language therapy team adds these awards to other recent honours.
They are also the current Team of the Year winners of the Giving Voice Awards organised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
