THE speed limit at a Mickleover roundabout will be lowered from Thursday.

The roundabout, in Etwall Road at the junction of Ladybank Road, is currently in a 60mph zone but many motorists approach it at 70mph.

Now, the limit around the island will be reduced to 40mph after residents raised concerns about the potential danger.

Ward councillor John Keith said it was decided at a neighbourhood forum meeting that tackling the issue should be a priority.

He added that the neighbourhood board had originally wanted it to be 30mph – but on advice from the Highways Agency, it was decided that 40mph would be more appropriate.

The change in speed limit was agreed in principle before Christmas.

An order has been put in place by Derby City Council, officially announcing that the new speed limit will come into force from Thursday.
