CHESTERFIELD are the dark horses who could just have a say in the Beechwood Derbyshire Premier League title race after the weekend's results.

The scene is set for a titanic battle over the remaining double-header weekend between Ockbrook & Borrowash and Sandiacre Town, who are separated by only four points with two games left.

But Chesterfield are only 19 points short of the lead themselves after collecting their first maximum points victory of the season on Saturday.

They had Derbyshire's Kevin Dean available for their game at Elvaston and he took 5-29 as they bowled the home side out for 167 in reply to a useful 239 all out.

It was Chesterfield's ninth win of the season, the other eight coming batting second, but captain Alex Hibbert says they will now target maximum points on the last weekend, when they have games at home to L:ullington Park and away to Ticknall.

"We would have to be considered very dark horses but we're happy to be underdogs and will just go out and try to do our job," said Hibbert.

"We looked at the table a few games ago and thought that, if we could just put a run together, things could happen.

"But we would be happy now if we finish third or second – that would be the highest we've finished in the Premier League and we already have our best points total."

"We've gone through most of the season with three or four first-choice players out for each match, so, wherever we finish, it's been a tremendous season for us.

"We went for maximum points on Saturday and it worked so I don't see any reason why we won't do it again in both of the last two matches."

Ockbrook are at home to Quarndon and away to Spondon over the last weekend, while Sandiacre, who are perhaps slight favourites now, are at home to Alvaston & Boulton and away to Quarndon.
