Sports Direct buys Republic fashion chain
A SPORTS goods retailer based in Derbyshire has bought troubled fashion chain Republic for an undisclosed sum.
Administrators for Republic said the sale of the business to Sports Direct, which has its head office in Shirebrook, would safeguard more than 2,100 jobs and secure a future for the brand.
Two weeks ago, Leeds-based Republic, which has an outlet in the Westfield Derby shopping centre, went into administration following weak sales.
Sports Direct has purchased 116 Republic stores, the brand name and its head office.
It has also bought all Republic’s stock.
