ILKESTON'S eight-game unbeaten run came to an end last night as neighbours Eastwood Town knocked them out of the Doodson Sport Cup.

Midfielder Daniel Elliot scored what proved to be the decisive goal for the Badgers in the 68th minute but the Robins could have forced extra time in the closing stages.

However, they failed to convert a penalty seven minutes from the end in this third round encounter leaving Eastwood to celebrate at the final whistle.

It was the perfect tonic for Eastwood, as they avenged an Evo-Stik League Premier Division defeat inflicted by the Robins on Boxing Day and gave themselves a timely boost as the basement side battles to avoid relegation.

Yet Ilkeston began the game well, with Dereece Gardner scoring after only eight minutes.

He netted from a sharp angle after cleverly making space.

But Eastwood were level again in the 29th minute when the home side failed to clear a corner.

Jacob Green took full advantage, netting from close range to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Then came Elliot's dazzling effort from long range to put the Badgers in front, which prompted Ilkeston to desperately press forward for an equaliser.

And in the 83rd minute they had a golden opportunity after Andrew Osei-Siribour was fouled, with fellow substitute Ryan Osborne stepping up for the penalty.

The teenager struck his spot kick hard and low but keeper Richard Stainsby guessed right to keep the ball out, ensuring the visitors booked their place in the next round.
