FAMILY and friends of Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Chambers have given him their vote of confidence for this weekend's show.

The Holby City star is one of only six celebrities left in the hit BBC show after former political journalist John Sergeant pulled out.

Tom, 31, will dance the tango and perform a group disco dance to Saturday Night Fever.

His aunt, Wendy Chambers, regularly makes more than 100 calls each Saturday night to keep her nephew in the competition.

Mrs Chambers, of Derby Road, Chellaston, said: "I know he is really tired and it's a huge amount of pressure, but he's enjoying it.

"If you look at him each week you can see that the kid is having a ball."

Repton school drama teacher Guy Levesley has known Tom since he was 11 years old and said: "I hope he doesn't get knocked out because I'm supposed to be going to London to watch him next week.

"He's an amazingly committed performer, always has been. Since John Sergeant left, he will have moved up a gear and be putting in the extra time. He just needs Derbyshire behind him to win."

And Janet Gosling, landlady of the Sycamore Inn, in Tom's home village of Parwich, is rooting for him too.

She said: "It would be great if he could win it. John Sergeant was only really getting sympathy votes and I don't think he was going to get through to the final anyway."
