Start of Foresters' Bermuda adventure
I AM writing regarding the photo showing men of the Sherwood Foresters boarding a train at Pear Tree.
My father, Sydney "Sam" Flude, was in the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters and, as a family, we were posted to Bermuda. The other half of the regiment went to Jamaica.
My eldest sister informs me that the year we went was 1935. We sailed from Southampton on a ship called the Dorsetshire and returned in September 1939.
We came back on a ship called the Ettric. Father got to the rank of regimental sergeant major and served 23 years in the Sherwood Foresters.
