Student Alexandra is winner at Crufts

A DERBY student and her dog scored top barks in obedience at this year's Crufts.

Alexandra Dewsbury and her five-year-old border collie, Amber, won the Intermediate and Advanced Obedience award, presented by the Young Kennel Club.

The 18-year-old Landau Forte College sixth form student said: "It's amazing."

And Alexandra and Amber were not the only success story in this year's competition.

Restaurant manager Hayley McCallum and her five-year-old Havanese, Guy, claimed a Best of Breed award at the famous show, which ended at the weekend.

Guy was one of more than 25,000 dogs at the show presented by the Kennel Club – which is celebrating 140 years of promoting healthy, happy dogs– at Birmingham's NEC.

Hayley, 24, of Heage, who works at Jamie's Italian in Nottingham, said: "I love Crufts. I've been coming since I was nine and have been a handler for the past 15 years. It is always a special show."
