Systems back up and running at Derby City Council
PHONELINES at Derby City Council were down for around two hours yesterday morning.
Any customers trying to call the authority's Derby Direct, which deals with calls on matters ranging from benefits and housing, to pest control and highways, got a message saying the lines were closed from 9am. But by 11am the phones were back up and running as normal.
A spokesman said the council was working with its contractor Serco to find out the cause of the problem.
He said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

“I was given another number to ring which I refused to use and asked the switchboard to put me through to the relevent department. The point of these 0333 numbers is the businesses using them collect revenue from each call, to hear it costing in excess of £3 per call does not surprise me”

“I have used this service and it is expensive to call for advice or to find out why your bin has not been collected. I have one Itemised call to report fly-tipping, Cost 85pence, A nother for a Council Tax enquiry cost me £3.25.
I would imagine it is the contractors who are taking the lion's share of these costs.”

“My daughter has called me. She works in the Council House and says dozens of staff are sitting around doing nothing as they have no computers whatsover. It's all due to some private company that supplies their computer systems.
Heads need to roll somewhere I reckon.”
