T-shirts for police officers is simply unacceptable
I CANNOT contain myself on this one. I am sure I will not be alone either. The picture of the new uniforms ("County's police officers to wear new-style shirts" Derby Telegraph, March 15) for the constabulary must have been decided upon by someone who really wishes to undermine the dignity of our serving police.
Why black short-sleeved T-shirts? Maybe easy to wash but the totally diminishing effect of the authority and dignity of our serving officers is unacceptable.

So Derbyshire Constabulary, are you really serious about this new approach to uniforms? If so you need your motives examined. Either white or blue long sleeved shirts (short versions for summer) and ties but not T-shirts please.

“As long as they're friendly and approachable, and they do their job well, then i couldn't care less what they wear.
They gain respect by their actions, not because they wear a shirt and tie!”

“Obviously in previous comment I should have included policewomen as well, apologies!”

“I'm aware of that Why_ however it is still a length of material that can get tangled in a radio, or flap around distractingly when running during a pursuit etc and doesn't really serve any purpose other than an outdated value that it somehow smart and people wearing ties somehow command additional respect
Policemen should be respected regardless of their uniform and can still be well presented without a Tie
When I'm at work, if I'm in the office I wear a shirt and tie occasionally a suit, if I'm out and about on site I wear more appropriate clothing where safety, comfort and less restriction are the main design features. Policemen should be the same, clothing should be appropriate to the activities they may need to carry out
Just my thoughts”

“The police must have been impressed with our proud Navy personnel now being forced to wear basball caps.”

“Black Tshirts will look tatty very quickly after a few washes, perhaps they are cheaper given how much money this new crime chappy is costing and they can't afford the uniforms for the front line staff. As crime chappy's office is now up to £197,000 a year, not including expenses, the savings have to come from somewhere hence Tshirts.”

“Http_404, police officers invariably wear clip-on ties which come away with a slight tug.”

“I would prefer them to wear whatever is most practical for carrying out their duties rther than be hindered by someone grabbing hold of a tie, or ripping the button off a shirt”
