2001: Craig Boyd makes a first attempt to take his own life.

Apr 2003: He is arrested for alleged serious assault on a former girlfriend.

Aug 2003: Mr Boyd makes a second overdose attempt at his home in Pear Tree Street. He sends a text to his sister-in-law, Melanie Parkin, saying "She (daughter Tia) deserves better than me." Sharon calls police who break down door at home and find him unconscious on his bed.

Jan 7, 2004: Mr Boyd is arrested on suspicion of assault in Colyear Street.

Jan 28: He is arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent in Bolton.

Feb 3: He fails to turn up at court.

Apr 15, 2005, 10.45pm: Police receive an anonymous call saying Mr Boyd is in Kenilworth Avenue, Normanton, at home of ex-girlfriend Amanda Joyce.

11pm: Police surround Kenilworth Avenue.

11.10pm: Mr Boyd is found hiding underneath three children under the duvet of a bottom bunk bed. He gives himself up

11.15pm: He is handcuffed, searched and put in the back of a police car. Arresting officers are Sgt Steven Judge (then PC Judge), PC Jamie Robinson and PC David Moorby.

11.28pm: He arrives at custody suite at St Mary's Wharf police station, where he is searched by PC Robinson, who removes the cord from his trousers. He is booked in by the custody sergeants Christopher Linscott and Nigel Rogers. Also on duty that night is PC Sheila Ensor, PC David Stoll and matron Brenda Blood.

11.35pm: Mr Boyd is put in cell W2.

Approx 12am: Ms Blood takes Mr Boyd double helpings of food.

1am: He is checked on by Ms Blood.

3.36am: A custody sergeant is seen on CCTV asking "Have you done the 3 o'clocks (checks on cells)?." A female voice answers "I started to."

4.06am: PC Ensor does an hourly check and discovers Mr Boyd hanging in his cell. She bangs her hands on the custody desk counter shouting "Dave, Dave" to PC Stoll. PC Stoll calls for an ambulance .

4.10am: Paramedic Paul Wildgoose arrives and visits the cell.

5.15am: Dr Andrew Hitchcock, forensic medical examiner, arrives at St Mary's Wharf where he is told by DS John Griggs and DI Rachel Walker "a male was found deceased in his cell".

6.50am: Enters cell and begins examination on Craig.

4.40pm-6.50pm: Professor Guy Rutty, Home Office pathologist, undertakes a postmortem examination.
