HEAVY traffic in Derby city centre continued to frustrate motorists into the early evening.

Slow traffic was reported in many areas including Lara Croft Way, where drivers were blaming the traffic light sequence for causing problems.

Derbyshire police blamed traffic volume for the delays and said there had been no major incidents or accidents responsible for the congestion.

Slow traffic was reported for much of the day on the A38 Kingsway southbound between A52 Ashbourne Road and A5111 Kingsway and also on the slip road from Duffield Road onto St Alkmund's Way, where there are temporary traffic lights for major road repairs.

City councillor Matthew Holmes said he had received complaints from people about the traffic problems.

He said: "Many were suggesting that the traffic lights are not working right in the city and it is causing problems. I will be asking some questions about the situation next week, as it doesn't seem to have been right for some time now."

Later in the afternoon an accident closed one lane of the A42 northbound between J13, the A511 in Ashby and the A453 Ashby Road junction in Isley Walton.

The police also reported the M1, M42 and A38 further afield were also busier than usualblaming the rainy weather for soem of the congestion.

There were no reports of train, bus or air delays in the region.
