Thorntons price hit by festive slide
A DECLINE in sales for chocolate-maker Thorntons saw its share price dip.
Out of the top 10 local listed companies, the Somercotes firm was the worst performer, as its value fell 6.5%.
The firm said that in the 14 weeks to January 9, sales declined by 2.4% to £80.7m, compared to the same period 12 months ago.
But Thorntons said that it was difficult to draw comparisons because of the collapse last year of Birthdays, which operated 94 of its franchises.
Elsewhere, Burnaston's Toyota and Derby train-builder Bombardier made gains.
Apart from household products manufacturer Reckitt and Benckiser, which has a factory in Sinfin, all the other companies in the top 10 saw a fall in value.
