Local cricket: Ticknall duo tear through Rolleston
THE Ticknall attack of Shahid Khan (5-14) and Sam Jubber (4-30) proved too hot for Rolleston in their County League Division One match on Saturday.
They bowled the home side out for 58 to bring Rolleston back to earth a week after their victory over leaders Elvaston.
That was after Ticknall batted first and made 224-6 with 95 from Jubber making it an excellent all-round day for him. Rupert Scott-Jones added 31 and John Thompson took 4-47 for Rolleston.
Matt Ford got 42 of Rolleston's meagre total as they were sent tumbling in 23.5 overs.
All results were possible all the way to the final ball when Denby faced Swarkestone.
Skipper Joe Greenhalgh hit an unbeaten 72 and his unbroken partnership with Stuart Poplar (45 not out) took Denby to 185-4 batting first.
Swarkestone pushed all the way for the win but were two runs short of victory with Denby bidding for the final wicket they needed when the innings ended at 184-9.
Wayne White hit 59, Tom Hamilton 37 and Jim Wilcox 32 for Swarkestone, as Neil Sparham (4-40) and Greenhalgh (3-45) tried to get the better of them.
The meeting of top against bottom brought no such thrills as Elvaston beat Tutbury, though the finish was a little closer than they might have expected.
Tutbury made 165 all out in 49 overs, with Paul Edwards hitting 44 and Kane Callaghan taking 3-25.
Elvaston made it to their target in 47 overs at 166-6, led by Lee Archer (45), Zac Callaghan (42 not out) and Nick Briars (33), despite the efforts of Darren Yeomans (4-43).
An unbroken partnership of 78 for the seventh wicket between Alan Worth (33 not out) and Tom White (42 not out) saw Stainsby Hall past the finish line against Stainsby Welfare.
That was after Paul May (89 not out) and Chris Bullimore (76) added 127 for the fifth wicket in Stainsby's total of 215-6 but Shipley reached 219-6 in 42.4 overs, with Danny Harwick adding 37.
Marehay were bowled out for 155 in 48 overs by Matlock, with Martin Camm hitting 48 and Edward Lander finishing with figures of 3-45.
Matlock had a slight flutter at the end as they slipped from 145-5 to 155-8 but Andy Rogers' 62 left them in control and they won by two wickets in 46.2 overs. James Kyte took 3-31 for Marehay.
An impressive burst from Andrew Ogden brought him 5-16 and sent Clifton collapsing to 103 all out, with their last seven wickets falling for 16 runs.
That left Clay Cross with a straightforward target that they knocked off in 17.5 overs to win by six wickets, even though Simon Moore (4-33) did his best to make life awkward for them.
Dave Greaves hit an unbeaten 51 as Clay Cross claimed their eighth win.
