TOMASZ Cywka believes Derby County's 4-2-3-1 formation suits the team and him.

Derby have used the system in all of their pre-season games.

Cywka has featured in the matches and he played 89 minutes of Tuesday's home victory over Stoke City, in which he produced a lively display.

He lined up as one of the three players behind lone striker Chris Porter, who headed the winning goal.

"We didn't concede a goal against Stoke and won. It looks like the new system really suits us – and I think it's only going to get better," said the Polish Under-21 international forward.

"Now we're playing 4-2-3-1, I can play any position in the three behind the striker. Any of the three positions are good for me.

"I'm getting closer to a goal in every game and I had a couple of chances against Stoke so, hopefully, I'll get one soon."

Cywka, 22, completed a permanent move from Wigan Athletic this summer following a loan spell with the Rams last season.

He has signed a two-year deal.

"When I talked to the gaffer in the summer and I found out he wanted to sign me, I was delighted," said Cywka.

"I'm really happy to be here.

"I don't know if there was any other interest but I know that Derby wanted me and I didn't think twice when I got an offer.

"I already knew how great the atmosphere was at the club and how great the fans are."

Cywka is set to feature against Birmingham City at Pride Park Stadium today (3pm) in the first team's final friendly of pre-season.

"We have really trained hard and you can see in the games that the work has paid off," he said.

"We've played well in every game and we can't wait for the first game of the season against Leeds."

Places still up for grabs, says Metgod – Page 46
