Tories' majority on council is extended

THE Conservative Party has picked up the remaining seat on Derbyshire Dales District Council.

The Stanton ward by-election saw Tory Joanne Wild voted in with 246 votes.

Labour's Julie Elizabeth Morrison received 173 votes and Liberal Democrat Nigel Allwood polled 84 votes.

Turnout was 34.1%.

Stanton was the only district council ward uncontested at the local elections held on May 5.

The council now has its full complement of 39 councillors and the Conservatives have increased their majority.

They have 29 seats.

Labour has five, the Lib Dems four and there is one Independent.
