Tory candidate hits city's streets in bid to woo electorate
CONSERVATIVES were out in force to spread their campaign message at the weekend.
Jack Perschke, who is standing in the Derby South constituency for the Tories in the General Election, brought dozens of supporters to the city to hand out leaflets in the city centre and knock on doors.

campaign: Jack Perschke got a mixed reaction.
He said: "We're trying to do something a bit different this election. I think everyone is a bit disillusioned with politics and particularly with politicians that hide away in their ivory towers.
"We wanted to take to the streets so that we can ask people what they want changed and how they'd do it differently."
He did receive some negative feedback from the public.
"Some people will never agree with the policies of my party and I totally respect that so, yes, we did get the occasional cross word.
"It's important that people who run for office know exactly what people think – both good and bad.
"Having said that, we also got offered lots of support and were given some brilliant ideas by residents on everything from reform to local housing associations to an invitation to the Youth Parliament."
Mr Perschke is planning a similar event again.
"High-profile campaigning and the use of street stalls will be a central part of what we do in the run-in to the election," he said.
"It's a new kind of campaigning and I hope that people take full advantage of it."

“All I've had at my door is leaflets from various candidates asking for my vote, I wouldn't know any of them if I saw them in the street.”

“Funny I've never once seen Beckett on the streets of Derby and I've lived here for 30 years, it was great to be able to meet and speak to the only serious candidate that can get Beckett out of office, Jack was winning "hearts and minds" on Saturday, honest, down to earth, a new type of politician rather than the time served, tired politicians of old, I'm not sure if Alan is one of those tried politicians?”

“It must be appreciated that Jack has taken the time to visit us from Surrey, it's a long way to come. People though have become sceptical of political parties, it seems they break their promises for the sake of their party, but it was nice that he visited.”
