Toyota to return to full working week
STAFF at Toyota's Burnaston factory will return to full-time working next month and no compulsory redundancies will be made for the moment.
In a statement released this morning following an annual pay review, the Japanese manufacturer, which employs around 3,800 staff at the plant said that workers will return to a full working week from April 1.
For the past year they have had their hours reduced by 10% due to a slump in demand for new cars caused by the global recession.
Workers will also receive five days extra paid holiday to be used during one of two non-production weeks around Easter, plus an additional day of holiday to use whenever they want.
But pay will remain frozen throughout 2010.
In January, Toyota confirmed that it may not have enough work for 750 workers towards the end of the year.
A previously announced voluntary redundancy programme will kick in during the second half of the year. Toyota hopes it will have enough volunteers to avoid compulsory redundancies.
The firm said that there were currently no plans to make any compulsory redundancies.
