Trader sold fake designer goods
A MARKET trader caught selling fake designer goods for the third time has been handed a suspended jail sentence.
Philip John Rose had 303 counterfeit items seized by trading standards officers at a market in Castle Donington.
Rose admitted 13 counts of selling counterfeit goods, between December 2006 and July 2007.
During the hearing Leicester Crown Court was told it was the third time he has been prosecuted for selling fake wares, including shoes and clothing.
James Thomas, prosecuting, said the 55-year-old ignored a verbal warning about his activities before the items were confiscated from his stall.
If genuine the goods, which included fake Prada sandals and Nike T-shirts, would have been worth about £15,000.
Rose, of Newbridge Close, West Hallam, Ilkeston, also sold some fake goods at a market held in Thoresby, Nottinghamshire.
He was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work.
Alistair Munt, in mitigation, said: "He accepts he was reckless. He didn't deliberately put counterfeit goods on his stand to fleece the public.
"He took a chance and didn't make proper checks. He wasn't aware the goods were counterfeit as they were of a good quality."
