BOMBARDIER has been named as one of Britain's top manufacturers, according to an organisation which represents engineers.

It is one of 21 UK companies who have made the shortlist for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Manufacturing Excellence awards. To qualify, companies are asked to conduct an in-depth self-assessment.

The best companies receive a visit from experts who verify it and offer practical advice and suggestions for the business. They then receive an award at the 2011 MX Ceremony in London in November.

The institution has more than 94,000 members, representing mechanical engineers in a diversity of fields such as the automotive, rail, aerospace, medical, power and construction industries.
