JAMIE Caven celebrated his third PDC ProTour title by winning the London Ontario Players Championship in Canada.

Caven defeated Dutchman Michael van Gerwen 6-4 in the final to seal an impressive all-round display.

In the last four, the Derby ace had triumphed 6-2 against Dennis Priestley, who won the recent Australian Open Players Championship and had been the champion in Canada for the past two years.

Caven, who now lives in Oakwood, had overcome Dave Watson and John Morrison in the early rounds before seeing off Steve Evans 6-4 and Justin Pipe in a deciding leg to reach the last eight.

There, he saw off Stenson Fields-based Andy Hamilton 6-4 before overcoming Priestley and van Gerwen.

Caven opened the final with a 130 finish and took the next two legs before van Gerwen wired a 160 checkout as Caven took out 78 for a 4-0 cushion.

A 14-darter from van Gerwen saw him get off the mark in leg five but Caven won the next and then missed four match darts as van Gerwen took the next and two more legs to reduce the gap to 5-4.

However, Caven was not to be denied and he took the tenth to seal victory and the £5,000 title.

Derby's Colin Osborne reached the quarter-finals of the competition, beating Scott Brett (6-2), Wayne Smith (6-1), home favourite John Part (6-4) and then Alan Tabern (6-4) before losing 6-2 to Wes Newton.

Caven's good form continued the following day as he reached the final of the Canadian Masters Players Championship.

He was denied back-to-back titles by Colin Lloyd, who triumphed 6-1, but picked up £2,500 to take his prize money for the weekend to £7,500.

Having defeated home star Ken MacNeil in his opening game, he then saw off Roland Scholten and Mark Webster to reach the last eight, where he just got the better of Alan Tabern in a deciding leg and then overcame Steve Maish in the semis.

Hamilton reached the fourth round before going down 6-2 to Priestley.

Part got his revenge against Osborne by knocking him out 6-3 in the third round.
