Trees catch fire after power line comes down in Sowbrook Lane, Kirk Hallam

A 33,000-voltage power line came down in Kirk Hallam this morning - setting fire to nearby trees.

Firefighters were called to Sowbrook Lane at about 1.30am, after the cable had dropped into a field alongside the road.

    Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were sent to Sowbrook Lane, Kirk Hallam

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it took firefighters about two hours to deal with the incident, while police officers closed the road.  

She said it was then left in the hands of engineers to fix the cables.

No-one was injured in the incident. It is not known whether or not snow brought down the line or if anyone was left without power.
