DERBYSHIRE'S Under-15s had a taste of cricket in the Caribbean when they went on tour to Grenada last month.

The 11-strong county party played four matches on their tour, winning two and losing two – though both of their defeats were against older sides.

They began the trip in the national stadium against a Grenada Under-15 Select and won emphatically by 193 runs.

Tom Hamilton (88), Peter Burgoyne (87), Matt Fletcher (77) and Curtley Read (25) took Derbyshire to 320-5 batting first and they bowled the Grenadians out for 127 in reply, with two wickets each for Sam Dyson, Kane Callaghan, Richard Tranter and Mitch Bradley.

They returned to the national stadium to take on a St George's Under-19s side and made 229-4 batting first, led by Burgoyne (93) and Tom Wood (73) but St George's won by six wickets despite 2-31 from Burgoyne.

Against a St Andrew's Under-18s at Progress Park, Grenville, Fletcher (51), Ryan Baker (33) and Read (31) saw Derbyshire to 207 as they were bowled out in the 40th over but they were beaten by four wickets, Burgoyne finishing with 3-44.

Derbyshire finished with a victory at La Sagesse against St David's Under-16s. They held the hosts to 220-8, with Burgoyne 3-39, and passed their total for the loss of six wickets, led by Wood (47) and Hamilton (39).

"It was a very worthwhile trip from our point of view and I was pleased that we were very competitive in every game, even the ones we lost," said head of cricket John Morris.

REIGNING Derbyshire Indoor Cricket League champions Aston-on-Trent were unable to make home advantage count when the Gateway Centre hosted the Northern area finals of the ECB Indoor Club Championship.

Aston were up against Lancashire champions Kearsley first and won by 31 runs to reach the semi-finals.

Mohammed Wasim scored 41 and Mehmoon Tariq 38 as they knocked up 140 before bowling their rivals out for 109.

But, despite Faisal Khan's 41, Aston were then shot out for 86 in only seven of their 12 overs against Blaydon, from Durham, who passed the target in nine overs with two wickets down. Blaydon went on to edge out Sheffield Hallam University by nine runs in the final to qualify for the national finals at Lord's.

This Sunday sees the final matches in the Derbyshire Indoor Cricket League, which were postponed due to the weather recently.

And the following Sunday, March 14, the semi-finals and final of the local league's Arthur Honeybun Trophy knockout competition will be played. All the games will be at the Gateway.
