The timeline of the abortive Intercity Express Programme - and the Derby Telegraph's Change Track campaign for a rethink.

2007:

November 16: The Department for Transport issues an invitation to Alstom-Barclays Rail Group, Express Rail Alliance (headed by Bombardier) and Hitachi, to tender for the Intercity Express Programme (IEP).

2008

June 26: Alstom-Barclays Rail Group pulls out of the running. Barclays Private Equity re-enters the project, as a partner of Hitachi and John Laing, to form Agility Trains.

2009

February 12: Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon announces to Parliament that "British-led" consortium Agility Trains has been selected as the preferred bidder for IEP.

February 14: The Derby Telegraph launches its Change Track campaign calling on the Department for Transport to rethink its decision.

March 2: A petition supporting the campaign opens on Downing Street's website. It is signed by almost 2,500 people.

June: A meeting between the Change Track delegation and Mr Hoon is cancelled after he announces he has resigned from the Cabinet.

July: Derby North MP Bob Laxton passes the Derby Telegraph's 27-page business case for Bombardier to get the IEP contract to new Transport Secretary Lord Adonis.

November: A date for when the Department for Transport said it hoped the IEP contract would be formally signed with Agility passes.

2010

February 26: Lord Adonis announces a three-month-long review into whether IEP provides value for money.
