Tyre-shredding in building allowed
A COMPANY has been granted permission to use a vacant industrial building for the shredding of used tyres, despite concerns from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.
Bridgetown Tyre Recycling was given the go-head for the facility in Alfreton by Derbyshire County Council.
An officer's report said the plant on Cotes Park Industrial Estate would be capable of processing up to 24,000 tonnes of tyres per year for recycling.
The trust said it was worried about oil or chemical spillage, wind-blown dust and that removal of on-site scrub could disturb nesting birds.
The county council gave the go-ahead with the proviso that chemicals be kept safely and dust not allowed to "travel beyond the site boundary".
