Tyson in frame for Rams start against arch rivals

NATHAN Tyson's lively show as a substitute against Barnsley has put the Derby County striker in the frame to start against his old club, Nottingham Forest, on Sunday.

Derby trailed 3-0 at Barnsley on Tuesday night when Tyson came on for Ryan Noble after 58 minutes.

He provided an attacking threat as the Rams fought back with goals from Jamie Ward and debutant Tom Carroll but they could not find a third and lost 3-2 – their first defeat in six League games.

A persistent groin problem has restricted Tyson to only two starts this season following his move from Forest in the summer.

Both of his starts came in home victories over Leeds United and West Ham United. Now he could line up against the Reds in Sunday's televised clash at Pride Park Stadium.

Clough was impressed by Tyson's half an hour at Barnsley.

"He looked strong physically and a threat and it just highlighted what we have missed in the first half of the season," said Clough.

"He looked lively and as soon as he came on he turned and ran for a ball played over the full-back.

"It was a big boost towards Sunday's game against Forest.

"Nathan is getting close to a start. If he comes through training this week we hope there is a good chance he will start.

"He took a knock in the ribs at Barnsley but his groin is fine, which we are all relieved about."

Tyson played on the left at Barnsley and Ward switched to the right with Callum Ball as the striker in what was a 4-3-3 formation for much of the second half.

"It was a good chance to look at Nathan in a wide position," said Clough.

"Ideally, we want the two up front but you saw that even with the so-called one up front it certainly wasn't negative in the second half."

Top scorer Theo Robinson remains doubtful for the Forest game.

A calf injury suffered in the goalless draw at Burnley forced the eight-goal striker to miss the last two matches.

“Wouldn't it be a fairy tale if Tyson played the whole 90, scored the winner and got the man of the match award to boot ! lol
Shoving the Red dogs further into the mire.
We may have to face 4 ex rams on Sunday in Campy who is still being mardy due to Florest blocking his summer sale to Swansea as he thinks he is Premiership class !, Dexter Blackstock, Marcus Tudgay and new recruit Danny Higginbotham.
Listening to Steve Cotterill and Frank Clark it sounds like they have admitted defeat to the dreaded relegation to Div 1”

    “I would start 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, whatever it's called.

    Fielding

    Brayford - Shackell - Barker - Roberts

    Green - Bryson - Bailey - Ward

    Ball - Tyson

I would start with Tyson and hopefully we will gain a lead before he goes off injured”

“Every morning I come here and hold my breath that there isnt an article saying 'Tyson Doubtful for East Mids Derby' ! Wasnt at Barnsley but friends that were have told me how dangerous Tyson looked. I would prefer to play with Davies (if fit) and Tyson and pack the team with as much experience as possible. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out Cloughs addition of Noble and Carroll playing alongside other young players with minimal experience at this level was the reason we had such a poor first half against a below par Barnsley team!”

    “no need to over complicate:

    Fielding

    Brayf - Shackell - Barks - Roberts

    Bryson - Hendrick - Bailey - Ward

    Tyson - Ball

Team packs pace, power and the quality. Simples...”
