THERE are reports of an accident on the A52 heading eastbound into Derby just before the Markeaton roundabout.

Police are en-route but say it seems it is between two cars just before the island.

There has also been an crash on the A38 which has partially blocked the carriageway heading southbound between the University and Markeaton roundabout.

There is also long hold ups on the A6 southbound into Derby with signs telling to find alternative routes.

The M1 is slowing between junction 25 and the East Midlands Airport turn-off at junction 24. And between junction 30 at Chesterfield and junction 29 at Alfreton traffic is heavy.

The A52 from Kirk Langley to Markeaton Island is also slowing due to road works heading eastbound into the city.

Sir Frank Whittle Road is also slow heading towards the Pentagon Island with regular morning traffic.

There are still temporary traffic lights in use on the slip road from St Alkmund's Way onto King Street, likely to slow things as things get busier later in the morning.

Rain should miss the rush hour traffic but will be heading into the county at around midday.

“The St Alkmonds Way bridge works are being used as excuses, by Trent Barton Customer Services, for delays on routes, not connected with that part of the city. 3/4hr delay the other night, on the Villager V1, Burton to Derby. - Actually, according to a driver, caused by an accident near the International Hotel, Burton Rd.!”

“Its crazy traffic was backed up down Kedleston Rd way past Park Farm and to Blenheim Parade untill at least 10am. I understand tempers were being raised and even road rage!! The chap interviewed on the radio said today would be the worst as drivers will find alternative routes!!!

Yeah right, would he like to enlighten us as to an alternative routes from Kedleston Rd to the railway station? The options I have are down the A38 to Abbey Hill, then towards the Pentagon Island, but the A38 backs right up past Palm Court.

Over the St Alkmunds Bridge and round to Queen St and down the Morledge, tried that last night and it was well blocked up as other drivers were using that route as well.

I fully appreciate that these bridge repairs have to be done no matter what, but why can they not be done between Easter and late summer. This way schools and University will be on holiday for most of it.People are on holiday or just of work more so during these months. Therefore less traffic!!!

I know its impossible to avoid traffic and of course delays have to be expected and most people can put up with some delays, but this is crazy especially with the flippant remarks of 'It will get better when we find other routes' There are no other routes!!! My self and others are going to have to give ourselves at least 1 and a half hours to get from one side of town to the other in the morning and evening 'rush hours'”
