He said: "I am voting for Rod Hutton because I believe he genuinely has the independence and impartiality required to conduct this job without having his hands tied by any of the outside interference the other candidates will have, due to their own political party allegiance.

"It is absolutely necessary for Derbyshire police to be managed by an autocratic, independent candidate.

"Mr Hutton has experience with the Metropolitan police and is able to use this experience to effectively communicate with not only the police, but the public."

"Another reason I am backing him is he has been the only candidate on social media sites that has actively and personally engaged with his followers and answered their questions without the need to toe the party line."

Michael Hall, of Cheapside, Derby, said he would be voting for Mr Spencer today.

He said: "I went to a charity event recently where Simon Spencer spoke very intelligently and articulately about how he wanted to see more uniformed officers on the beat, which is something I support.

"Derby seems to be blighted by anti-social behaviour which is something that needs to be sorted out and I think Mr Spencer will do that."

Jane Gibb, of Swanwick, will be voting for Mr Gale. She said: "I'm normally a Tory voter but I looked at what the four candidates were pledging in the campaigns and the fact David Gale has promised to put more bobbies on the beat is something I would like to see."

And John Cowley, of Wild Street, Derby, said he would be voting for Mr Charles.

He said: "The thing that affects my life the most is anti-social behaviour and I want to vote for someone I feel will approach that head-on.

"From something little, something huge can escalate and I think Mr Charles, with the police authority experience he already has, will grab anti-social behaviour by the scruff of the neck."

Polling today is from 7am to 10pm.

Sealed ballot boxes from across Derbyshire will be delivered to Alfreton Leisure Centre by 11am tomorrow, where the count will take place.

It is hoped the winner will be named tomorrow.

    I am "who" :)

"For some reason this article has been edited since the original morning and my name has been removed and the first paragraph, although the rest of my opinion remains. In full in paper copy.

    It should have read:

Kalwinder Singh Dhindsa, of Littleover said he would be voting for Rod Hutton as he did not believe other election candidates could do the job without being affected by party interference.”

“@Hackneytom; given his record of making claims and then being vague on the details (see his "Police experience") I doubt it would have made a jot of difference. We'd be no more informed than we are now.”

Who is He?
    Great reporting DET.
Anyway, yet again missed is the Panel which will oversee the PCC, made up from councilors, paid for from the Council Tax of course.”

“The fact is that someone will be elected to this post by tomorrow, no matter who that person is, and despite the people who decided not to vote, the chosen person will have been elected by the majority of those who have used their democratic right to vote.”

“And let's see how much credibility tihs adds to the Telegraph polls.

Remember they suggested 25% would not vote. A Turnout of 75%?!

    Really?”

“It has to be something worth voting for ; if I truly belived any of the candidates would make a difference I'd gladly vote.
Anyway, best of luck to Rod Hull. I'm sure he can manage to collect his multi thousand pound 'wage' without my endorsement. And be sure to put my suggestion to him if you like...”
