REPAIRS to potholes along the A52 will be carried out from today.

Derby City Council says it will take about two weeks to repair the surface of the eastbound carriageway.

It has deteriorated significantly between Pentagon Island and Spondon as a result of the freezing weather this winter.

In February, the council placed an advisory speed limit on the road of 40mph for safety reasons.

The road works will take place on the eastbound carriageway between Pentagon and Spondon and will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption to traffic.

Diversions will be put in place while the work is carried out.

Councillor Lucy Care, cabinet member for planning and transport, said: "This is really good news for the city.

"The repairs should ensure all potholes on the A52 are fully repaired, making the route for motorists much easier and safer.

"We hope that the work will create as little disruption as possible."

“Andrew, no, the bad section of the A52 from the Pentagon island to where the ring road joins at Spondon is not a Highways Agency responsibility. Their section is the A52 from Nottm and along Raynesway.”

“Any actions or assurances taken or given by Ms Care to alleviate the misery of rate payers should be viewed with great suspicion. She has presided over the delayed bus station project, hospital parking fiasco, dis-connecting Derby, bus lanes for all, parking charges increasing, no salt for the roads when required, random traffic lights and any number of minor irritations. So "on your bike Lucy" and good riddance to you and your Lib/Dem chums.”

“Much as it will be nice not to have to slalom down the road in the morning avoiding craters, I agree with Andy that it should be resurfaced properly rather than just patched again. Until that is done it will continually fall to pieces when it snows. Is the A52 not Highway Authority maintained rather than DCC?”

“"Pot Holes" I think the council is having a laugh..
Have you seen them, I am supprised there has not been a major accident when motorists have tried to avoid the so called pot holes. Looks more like they have started the work then left it.
The council should be ashamed of them selfs letting it get this far.
    One excuse after an other”

“Potholes? Cllr Care, I think you need a site visit to the raod. The 10's of feet long strips of tarmac are a tad more than potholes I would suggest.
Nothing short of a complete re-surfacing will fix the mess that is the A52.
Short term fixes will just become longer term problems.
But you will know all about that of course....”
