WINGER David Martin is set to join Derby County when the window for emergency loans reopens tomorrow and he will go into the squad to face leaders Newcastle United at Pride Park Stadium a few hours later.

The Rams are also closing in on a loan deal for Arsenal's 18-year-old French forward Gilles Sunu now that a return to Pride Park for Everton striker James Vaughan is looking less likely.

Martin (pictured) was not involved in Millwall's victory over Norwich City on Saturday but the 24-year-old was at Bramall Lane to watch Derby's 1-1 draw with Sheffield United.

His permanent move fell through just before the transfer window closed a week ago.

Millwall accepted a bid worth £200,000 for Martin, whose contract with them expires at the end of the season, and now he will sign on loan to the end of the season when a permanent deal will be sealed.

"Everything is agreed. The window opens on Tuesday morning and we can register him up to noon as an emergency loan," said manager Nigel Clough.

"He'll be in the 18 against Newcastle United tomorrow night if it gets sorted.

"It will be a loan to the end of the season but the permanent deal is agreed. It will be ideal to get him for the next two or three months so he can settle in."

Martin impressed playing for Millwall in two FA Cup games against the Rams last month. His record for the Lions is nine goals in 88 appearances.

Arsenal are currently trying to sort out clauses in Sunu's contract and the Rams are just waiting for the go-ahead from the Gunners to take the youngster on loan.

"We are still after him, it's still a possibility," said Clough.

"Tom Glick (chief executive) is in touch with Arsenal every few days. The player is happy to come and we have agreed the wages with Arsenal, so it is just a case of them getting it sorted."

Sunu can play up front or from the right.

He was a member of Arsenal's FA Youth Cup-winning side last season and has made two appearances for the first team this season. He started the Carling Cup victory over West Bromwich Albion and was a substitute in the Champions' League clash against Olympiakos in Greece.

Vaughan's brief loan spell at Derby earlier this season was cut short by a knee injury.

The 21-year-old was not in Everton's 18 on duty against Liverpool in Saturday's Merseyside derby. They started with Louis Saha up front and Tim Cahill playing just off him. Strikers Yakubu and Victor Anichebe came off the bench late in the game.

When asked about a possible return for Vaughan, Clough said: "Nothing has changed there, so it is unlikely we will get James now.

"But if we can get Sunu, it would be a direct replacement."

Coventry City are now being linked with Vaughan who has slipped back down the pecking order of strikers at Goodison.

“That would be non-league Long Eaton Utd? And, no, 'david', I wouldn't not have Billy Daives back. He is not worthy of trust. His objectives and yours will be well out of line, believe me. All that you were warned about is happening, bit by bit. Do you not listen to him. He is saying exactly what we said he would.”

“I dont give a stuff derby beat us - its one each for the season...and they would love to swap places with us in the league and trophy cabinet....

Yes derby did play like wimbledon in the 80's
and they did kick lumps out of us...

    so what!

We should have risen to the occasion and played them off the park - but hey we didnt.

Most derby fans will tell you, they would swap players and staff in a blink of an eye - us Forest fans need to be proud of that.”

“MB - with reference to targetting players out of our depth, you may have a piont to a certain degree.

However we did bring in Shorey which goes to prove we're not going senial...

Also very importantly... This man city signing, your arsenal lad last year, and Vaughan at Everton.

They are not going to sign for you - which goes to show you are a feeder club.

I prefer to be Forest trying to go for bigger names rather than develop players you'll never see again.

I thin Forest could have signed this lad, along with Jack wilkshire plus others, but Forest are only interested in bringing on our own youth”

“Which way would you recommend then 'Royal Red'? How about having a nice long lie down if a player so much as looks at you? Seemed to be a strategy advised by BD to your lot at PPS. It was good for a couple of bookings.”

“Interesting how "Non League" Nigel and his "Non League" players got the better of Billy Davies' "superior" side. Its also good to see that the scum are still crying like babies that their precious Nothingham Forest got bullied by the big boys from Derby. "Mummy they wouldnt let me kick the ball or score any goals waaaaaaaaa, Mummy the nasty referee wouldnt let anyone have a freekick even if they did their very best acting as if they'd been shot when no-one was near them" - Save the excuses lads because IF you do get to the Premiership, you'll come up against much more physical nasty sides than the Rams - week in, week out.”

“Where do these Red Dogs get the idea that they are all of a sudden super rich? Our board could, if they wanted, get themselves further into debt by throwing money at players on ludicrous contracts but they have learned that by doing that, it seriously sets a club back by years. Now let me see, lets think who the last manager we had to do that was.... his name escapes me... perhaps someone could help me out here?”
