A DERBYSHIRE lingerie firm with clients including supermodel Caprice has gone into administration - putting about 200 jobs at risk.

Intimas, which is based in Long Eaton, called in administrators Pricewaterhouse Coopers after struggling in the economic downturn.

The company, which also manufactures women's lingerie and swimwear for clothing giant Ted Baker, is looking to secure new investment after suspending shares last month.

Intimas chairman John Gibson said the firm would be working with administrators to try and prevent job losses.

He said: "The directors, working with the joint administrators, will do everything in their power to ensure a future for the business and secure jobs for the current employees."

Stuart Maddison, from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, said: "Intimas is a well known group with a number of strong brands in its portfolio, which has unfortunately become another victim of the recession.

"Our main priority now will be to review the outstanding order position and to look to achieve a sale of the business and its key brands."

In 2006, Intimas signed a three-year deal to manufacture goods for Caprice Lingerie.

The firm, formerly called Sherwood Group, reported losses of £1.65m in the first half of last year.

“I hope that people are aware that many companies are making small numbers of staff redundant and are only obliged to declare a redundancy situation when the figure is over thirty.Agency staff whose positions are deemed as "temporary ongoing" are not classed as redundant if the employer terminates the contract early. So the true situation can remain unclear.”

“I went through this process of my job being "at risk". This means that there is a 90 day consultation period and then you're out of work. So what of the previous story about Derby "bucking the trend" on unemployment - you can't have it both ways!”
