Moz Greenshields, Derby Area Trades Union Council secretary, said she hoped "all the users and supporters of public services" would join the protest. She said the city's ruling Labour Group had agreed to support the move, adding: "We know that the vicious cuts (to the city council's budget) do not spring directly from the Labour Group.
"They are imposed by the ConDem coalition Government, and enforced by law.

"This is a real attack on local democracy, as well as on the services themselves and the workers who deliver them."
Asked about the chance of strikes over proposed council redundancies, she said: "I know there's a high level of anger over jobs and services being slashed.
"It's one of a number of options which will be determined by the trade unions representing city council employees."
