VIDEO: Walk-in centre campaigners say they will fight on
CAMPAIGNERS have said they will not stop fighting to keep a walk-in centre in Ilkeston – despite being told it will definitely close next month.
Members of the Save Ilkeston GP campaign had gathered at an NHS meeting in the Arena Church, Rutland Street, and Amanda Jackson, campaign organiser remained positive: "We are not going to stop.

People gathered to protest about the closure of Ilkeston's walk-in centre outside the Arena Church, where a meeting was held.
"The service the walk-in centre provided was fantastic and the people of Ilkeston deserve to have it. We will be in Ilkeston market place collecting more signatures to support the need for a centre this weekend."

The meeting was told that, because of low numbers, the Ilkeston Family Practice and GP Health Centre, based at Ilkeston Hospital, was not financially viable and would be closing on February 28.
Vikki Taylor, director of commissioning for Derbyshire Primary Care Trust, said: "I could not keep giving a company money for seeing less than the number of patients they should be doing.
"There are six surgeries in the town that have open waiting lists and can take new patients.
"The hundreds of thousands of pounds that will be saved by this closure will stay in Ilkeston."
